Yes the restaurant is still there
How much is the admission fee?
The grounds were beautiful and there were a few nice pieces of art, but I would have been disappointed had I spent $20 to visit. Our ticket to visit a different museum covered our entrance fee, which made it worth the trip.
The exhibits are always intriguing and the view is spectacular from the front lawn.
This is a beautiful location. Highly recommend walking the entire grounds. We had lunch there and the food and service was excellent. Enjoy it before it closes!
This place is AMAZING. If you visit, walk the entirety of the garden. There's the most beautiful view of Honolulu framed by all the trees.
I love this place. The garden is amazing!
Peaceful retreat high above the busy metropolis. Enjoyed the fresh air and art exhibits. Lush landscapes with beautiful native plants.
The plastics exhibit really brings out how our world is impacted by our careless use of plastics. The garden was outstanding as were the sculptures. A must see in Honolulu.
So sad this place is now closed to the public. Such a hidden gem. Beautiful views of Honolulu.
This place is peaceful and serene.
Too bad they are closing its doors permanently.
Small intimate collection tucked away in the hills. It's a nice place to go for a stroll around the property which is nicely landscaped and dotted with sculptures. Pack a lunch to eat on the lawn to make it worth the trip if you're coming from far.
A beautiful museum located on the top of Makiki. The views are stunning and the artwork here is great as well. When you’re here, it feels like you’re in another world because you’re surrounded by nature and lush greenery. It’s $10 to get in with a local id other wise it’s $20, but I do think it’s worth a visit.
Great location for a quick picnic in the “country” and seeing the city spread out before you. The outdoor space has usually outshined most the the art exhibits (tough act to best). Now closed and on the market. We will see who buys this fabulous white elephant and then donates it back to HoMA again. Might make a great embassy site (one that does not need a lot of foot traffic).
Beautiful place with a lot of local artists work. Very pretty walking
We went to the Honolulu Museum for the first time to attend a family day event sponsored by Bank of America each month on the 3rd Sunday. Admission is free during this event. The museum is really nice with great exhibits. The family day event had lots of activities for children. We really enjoyed the free (school bus) ride up to Makiki Heights for more activities at Spalding House. The atmosphere and views from up there are amazing. The art exhibits up there are nice, too. There's a nice, open grassy hill area to relax and for keiki to play. There's also a nature trail that leads you all up and through a beautiful jungle like scene. Overall, it was a great first experience at the museum. The only issue was parking. Afterc 20 minutes of circling around the museum area, we finally managed to park in the museum lot off of South Beretania. Cost was $5. I'd recommend this museum and especially the free 3rd Sunday event.
I love it at the Spalding house cafe. What can be any better then looking out at the city on a nice beautiful sunny day, with a wonderful picnic basket prepared by the wonderful people in the cafe. Celebrating how lucky we live Hawaii with a bottle a wine that I brought to relax and enjoy with friends. With the picnic basket had the Classic panini and the Chicken Reuben Sandwiches. It also came with salad, dessert, and drinks. They also provided us with a blanket, umbrella, and chirping bird of paradise...I would recommend this experience to anyone who has never seen the city through in this kind of sunlight.❤💙💚💛🧡💜
It's not a bad place to visit. Brobally the garden is the best. But really small, like an hour max (mre lilely 40 mins) to see everything. The administration should work on it more, make more events expand it more. I guess it lools the same as 10 years ago.
One of my favorite places in the entire state! Gorgeous setting, outstanding art -- check out the Hockney exhibit! -- a fantastic indoor/outdoor café, and a not-to-be-missed gift shop. Take a tour of the magnificent grounds when you're done with the museum!
The art in the museum on our visit was entirely about the dangers of plastic to the world. Outside, the grounds were superb and worth the price of admission.
Beautiful place. Sad it's doors closed at the end of 2019.
Fun sculpture and a nice restaurant for lunch
We went for a school field trip with 3rd graders. The students were able to draw in their journals in and around the museum. The docents were knowledgeable and kept the children's interest the whole time. Beautiful and peaceful garden home with intriguing artwork indoors and out.
Beautiful grounds, lovely small cafe, ever-changing exhibits. Small museum, now part of Honolulu Museum of Art.
Our favorite weekend spot. Love getting a picnic from the case and eating it out on the lawn under the huge tree. The grounds are super fun for kids - easy jungle climbing paths and lots of space for them to run around. Inside had a small but nice at collection.
Spaulding House, we’ll miss you.
It is a beautiful place to visit and there is very amazing artworks.
We had such a fun time at the museum. Highly recommended. The kids loved it too. :)
A nice place to spend an overcast day. Cafe offers a number of sorbetti and gelati.
Didn't go into the museum. You can go to the cafe without paying the entry fee. The cafe is cozy. What I had was so-so. Service is good. The grounds are beautiful. We walked around part of the property after lunch and it's very lush as well as peaceful and serene. I enjoyed spending some time there very much.
It was family day today! Lots of fun stuff, I have always enjoyed this museum and it's garden views!
Serene gardens and great modern art. A Oasis in the city.
A beautiful hidden gem with some really fun and unique exhibits. The cafe downstairs is really cute with some decent fare. Highly recommend, especially if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city for a while.
The museum is a wonderful place, well lighting give you a sense of welcome you for the minutes to go inside, the guardian are ready to guide you to park the car. The staff are friendly to you. The vew is a beautiful. ...
This small but mighty museum is one of the most charming places on Oahu. You get well curated exhibits at a spectacular property. You could take a quick break up here and feel instantly transported or languish here for hours for a mindful retreat. I recommend checking it out first on the Bank of Hawaii Family Sunday’s (the 3rd Sunday each Month) when admission to this museum and its sister, the Honolulu Museum of Art on S. Beretania are completely free. While it’s typically crowded on those days; you can at least get a sense of the space. If you enjoy it, then come back another day and take advantage of the tours. The volunteer docents are extremely friendly and approachable. They know how to coax great conversations out of you even if you feel like you don’t know anything about art. One of my absolute favorite places in the world!!
Great art museum! Their galleries are quite fascinating. The different mediums throughout the museum is terrific. The local art is amazing and the different galleries that they change out every few months are very interesting and unique. The 3rd Sunday of each month is Family Day with arts and crafts for the kids, family films and usually live music and dancing. Its a super fun event!
Walking through for three hours on Saturday afternoon. See history if Pacific arts as well as modern arts. There are gardens and cafe to relax. Very nice walking path in the museum. Definitely will come again. Admission is free on the first Wednesday and the third Sunday.
It has really great grounds around but the art part just didn’t speak to us when we visited. Kids had little fun getting some activities offered but I don’t think we will be coming back.
Best place for a picnic. This museum will be sorely missed.
This my favorite museum. Ideal to bring kids. Lots of open space. Perfect for pics. The cafe is really good. I tried soup, salad and pita and it was delicious. Customer service is excellent. The garden is the gem. I highly recommend to enroll your kids to art class program there. You can go to Honolulu art academy web site and register online or come to admin office on 111 Victoria street to apply in person.
Very nice...educational and courteous
Beautifully maintained landscape estate with beautiful views. Sad that museum closed.
The grounds are lovely. And the view of the city from this height is amazing. It's not the biggest museum but if you have some spare time it's worth it to stroll the gardens and enjoy the nature. Quite serene. I wouldn't say it's a must do if you're strapped for time. If you pay for the other museum this ones free admission though so something to keep in mind. We took the bus there transit is great.
Beautiful museum of art
Nice Museum with a beautiful garden and great artwork
Amazing place to enjoy leisurely lunch! Highly recommend the picnic option!
This is not THE Honolulu Museum, this is a small house-museum. It is interesting with great views, but pretty small and limited for the price.
This place is great - come to see it while you still can! There is still a great selection of sculptures and art around the house and grounds. The outdoor paths are a lot of fun with terrific views - just don't forget bug spray. The museum, cafe, and shop all have excellent service.
Fantastic collection and beautiful grounds. We came on a rainy day and it was still very beautiful and moving. One of my favorite experiences while in Oahu.
Loved it
Great property and art gallery. Had lunch at the little cafe, food was good, service excellent!
